December 4 celebrated as ‘Private Security Day’

In order to recognise the role of the private security industry and private security guards in the nation-building process, the Central Association of the Private Security Industry (CAPSI) on Saturday celebrated 4 December as “Private Security Day”. The Chief Guest on the occasion was S. Jagjit Singh Dardi, Chairman, Chardikla Time TV Group, and the event took place at Jass Gardens, Rajpura Road, Patiala.

Private Security Day is celebrated on 4 December every year as on this day former President Pratibha Patil graced the 2009 CAPSI annual conference and agreed to be the first Supreme Commander of Private Security Services honouring the efforts of Security Guards, Officers and Owners/ Directors of PSAs who work unitedly and relentlessly as frontline warriors even during tough times like COVID-19.

A number of activities took place to commemorate the day, including March Past and Obstacle Courses like long jump, running and climbing. Awards and certificates were also distributed to recognise the services of security personnel. Total seven security companies participated in the parade including Datar Manpower and Security Services Group (DMSSG) and Datar Security Service Group (DSSG). Harinder Singh, Working President, KING Group Security Services, was also present at the event.

Raghuinder Singh Kairon, Vice President, DSMSSG, in his address said, “The security sector is the second largest employment sector after agriculture in India, with men employed in the former industry being much more than the men working in the Indian forces combined. We are all grateful to thousands of security guards who work 24x7 to ensure safety at various locations. During COVID-19, they went post to post to check if all protocols were being followed strictly. They coordinated with clients and law enforcement authorities. They helped and assisted COVID-19 patients at hospitals like true frontline warriors. They worked under most hostile environment, extreme stress and uncertainties. Now is the time to recognise them for their services rendered and honour them on Private Security Day.”

He added that they will also pay tribute to the brave private security staff who died serving humanity during this difficult time.

Adarsh Kumar, a security officer who works at PUNBUS spoke highly about his experience and the event. He said, “I participated in the March-past drill for five days, and the training was just unbelievable. It was like receiving military training being a civilian. I learnt a lot during the process and overall it was a great opportunity!”

Private Security Day was also celebrated internationally, as all major global organisations and companies accepted CAPSI’s proposal.

CAPSI, functioning as a federal agency, represents the interests of the entire private security industry (PSI) of India. It operates through its state chapters constituted in each state of India. Each state chapter is headed by an executive council.
