DSSG celebrates Sustainable Diwali this year
Making sure we add long-term value to the society
Millions of households are getting ready for Diwali and waiting with excitement as the festival of lights is just around the corner. Modern-day Diwali is not only religiously significant but also celebrates the spirit of goodwill and happiness that fills every home.
As the preparations, which include cleaning, shopping for new clothes, preparing sweets for friends and family, and also decorating the house take place, it is essential not to forget the meaning of the festival, which is the triumph of good over evil.
As the modern world is going through the challenges of COVID-19, climate change, waste stockpiles, and air pollution, making sure that Diwali is sustainable and environmentally friendly is DSSG’s mission!

All dimensions of sustainability guide our activity within our organisation, how we interact with our clients, with other stakeholders and with the communities where we operate across our network.
We recognise the impact that our business activities can have on the environment and are committed to managing this impact in a responsible manner. This is done through the following measures:
1. Waste Paper Recycling & Plantation — DSSG recently incorporated a new recycling program wherein we collect all our waste paper and send them to Green-O-Tech India, a leading paper recycling company in India. The recycled paper is then used in making daily stationery products like Notepads, Conference Pads, Dairies, Paper Pens, Paper Pencils, etc. They offer this free of cost against the waste paper which we get recycled through them. Along with that, with recycling of every 100 kg waste paper, they plant a TREE for free of cost as part of their “Green Initiative.”
2. Energy Conservation — Saving electricity is environmental friendly and it is our duty to conserve energy. DSSG printed extremely useful light switch stickers, which act as a reminder to save energy by turning off lights after use!
3. Reduce Plastic — By simply using less plastic items in our daily life, we can help keep marine life alive and beat plastic pollution. At DSSG, we have replaced plastic glasses and spoons with disposable wooden cutlery.
4. Sustainable Gifts — This year, DSSG is celebrating Diwali with PHOOL whose circular economy model brings triple benefits of environmental, social and financial sustainability. It helps avoid the pollution of the Ganges by floral waste discarded by temples by recycling it into incense sticks and cones and creating jobs for women in marginalised sections.
Besides this, DSSG has introduced a new Diary, Calendar as well as Wrapping Sheet using sustainable product like Brown Kraft Paper which is easily recyclable. We have also incorporated 12 Oaths of Sustainability to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
5. Supporting Communities — Giving is not about making a donation, it’s about making a difference. A small difference which has the potential of making a huge impact on lives of the underprivileged.
This Diwali, DSSG did its bit with the help of Goonj Organisation by arranging a donation drive in all its offices. Our employees stepped up and donated clothes, stationery, medicines and other useful items for this cause, making the drive a great success. We appreciate and thank them for their contribution!
Championing sustainability is an individual responsibility for all of us, at every level within our organisation. This year has been a long one with global pandemic hitting. Celebrating eco-friendly Diwali can help us avoid another global emergency from hitting us. It’s the simple steps that count. And while you’re at it, plant a tree.
