Indian Coast Guard Day

The ICG is an Armed Force of the Union of India for ensuring the security of the maritime zones of India with a view to the protection of maritime and other national interests in such zones and for matters connected therewith. The Indian Coast Guard was formally established on 1 February 1977 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India, which operates under the Ministry of Defence. This day marks the commemoration of the Indian Coast Guard’s establishment to safeguard India’s 7516.60 kilometers long coastline.

The ICG is an armed force of India that protects maritime interests and implements the safety of our coastal borders. The ICG served over 10,000 lives and apprehended around 14,000 miscreants since its inception in 1977. The ICG is the fourth-largest coast guard in the world, with 156 ships and 62 aircraft in its inventory.
