Security personnel — Salute to the brave hearts who are selflessly performing their duties!

International Workers’ Day is also known as May Day or Labour Day, and is celebrated on the first day of May every year in more than 80 countries. In India, this day is famously known as Antarrashtriya Shramik Diwas. This day is celebrated to honour the accomplishments of the working class. Labour has an indubitable role in shaping any nation’s fortune!

Talking about history, this day for the very first time was celebrated on May 1, 1890, with a focus on workers, after it was declared by the First International Congress of socialist parties on July 14, 1889, in Paris, France that May 1 every year be dedicated as the “Workers Day of International Unity and Solidarity”. In India, this day was first observed in the year 1923 in Chennai, organised by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan.

It is the labour or the working class that always faces the brunt as they have sacrificed and struggled for numerous causes. Coming to the current scenario, the COVID-19 has hit this stratum of society extremely hard. Great leaders in the past have fought for the working class and among them was Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. He was the one who, with force, pleaded for living wages and a decent working environment.

The outcome of COVID-19 can be felt across all the sectors globally. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ministry of Health along with State governments have issued directives that to curb the spread of this virus it is very necessary to stay at home and be safe. This means that since most of the offices remain abandoned, dependency on private security services has increased manifold. Shopping Malls, Cinema Halls, Retail stores, etc. require security round the clock. At Datar Security Service Group (DSSG), the security personnel are trying to protect individuals, families and communities in difficult situations. Their work has doubled up too as they ensure security and enforce strict measures of washing hands, sanitising and wearing masks by the public before entering any premises. They too are at risk of coronavirus infection as they interact with many people daily.

During this difficult time, it has been noticed that security personnel without even thinking about themselves have continued to provide safety and security of premises and communities at large.

We all hope that this pandemic ends soon and we get back to our normal lives!
